easyJet, Liverpool’s largest airline is celebrating carrying 50 million passengers to and from the airport since it started flying there on 27th October 1997 with its first flights to Geneva, Amsterdam and Nice.

To mark the occasion the airline surprised Ellie Jeffrey and Finn Graham from Carlisle flying to Larnaca with free easyJet return flights.

easyJet now operates 7 aircraft from the airport and offers the largest schedule for customers, flying around 2 million passengers a year to 27 destinations. During this summer it will offer up to 340 flights a week.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager said: “We are so proud to be in Liverpool marking a key milestone as we celebrate flying 50 million passengers to and from the airport. Our first flights from the airport took off for the first time over 25 years ago and since then we’ve been committed to Liverpool in providing great value fares and convenient connections for our customers from across the North West they’re travelling for business or leisure.

Paul Winfield, Aviation Director for LJLA commented, “To welcome easyJet’s 50 millionth passenger is a major milestone for the airport and we’re naturally very proud that so many easyJet passengers have chosen to use Liverpool over the years, helping us to become a key airport for the UK and as a gateway for the North West and North Wales. easyJet are the largest airline to operate from Liverpool and we look forward to continuing to work closely with them and grow their presence from here across city breaks, domestic and leisure markets.”
