I love September. Not just because of how pretty the parks look with the changing colours of leaves and trees.

I like the fresh air even if it’s a bit chilly.

I like wrapping up (that’s if we don’t get an Indian Summer), tasting hot soups and warming curries, although it’s true, I love the latter all year round! Blame my mum for that!

I also really look forward to Organic September.

It’s a month-long campaign which aims to raise awareness of Organic products, and the brands, producers and farmers who bring them to us in the UK.

We hosted a #wakeuptoorganicday one Wednesday in the summer with an inspiring response and not just because our first customer was the ever youthful 98-year-old David who loves organic food.

There’s something very satisfying about knowing the food and drink you consume has met strict regulations on how they have been grown and produced. All organic food companies and farms are inspected yearly to ensure that they meet the high standards required for organic food under European law.

Personally, I prefer to eat foods that don’t contain artificial additives or preservatives, or the 300 pesticides used in regular farming.

There are only 20 pesticides that can be used by organic farmers all of which are derived from natural ingredients. Organic foods also contain no genetically modified ingredients and been produced in a way that is sustainable, something we’re perhaps much more aware of in 2019 given Blue Planet and the plastic pollution campaign. It’s easy to get involved, just look for the organic logo or why not think about growing your own! 

The Soil Association says that by switching just one item in your shop to organic will help contribute to changing our food system, buying more organic food means more organic farms so fewer pesticides which is better for our wildlife and means more farm animals raised under higher welfare standards.

And, if it’s good enough for David, that’s Attenborough and our long time customer, it’s good enough for me.
